Extra Rubbish Collection
There is an inevitable increase in the quantity of rubbish generated over Christmas. As a result Dorset Council will collect more waste from ratepayers over the three week Christmas period. Up to two extra sacks of rubbish placed beside your bin on your first rubbish collection after Boxing Day will be collected.
Christmas produces a great deal of extra recyclable waste so if you put the overflow from your bin into boxes the waste collection teams will pick that up too when collecting recycling waste. Please do not put glass bottles in in with the general recycling waste. Put glass bottles and jars in their own separate box. With glass bottles and jars there is no need to take off the metal lid. In fact Dorset council suggest you leave it on!
Please do not put foil based wrapping paper in the recycling bin. It has to go in with general household waste.
If you cannot wait for the collection or are inundated with rubbish you can take it to one of the Household Recycling Centres. They will be open from 10am to 4pm daily, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. All of the recycling and waste disposal centres are listed on THIS LINK
Collection of Garden waste will be suspended from Christmas day through to 8th January so as to provide the extra manpower to service the extra household waste collection.
