The SW Lakes Trust in partnership with Bournemouth Water will be holding an open day at the beautiful Longham Lakes this weekend.
Surprisingly few people realise that just behind the water works at Longham bridge lie two magnificent lakes. The two lakes are a magnet for wildlife. They provide a stunning circular walk of about a mile.
A whole host of activities will be taking place. See the image above for a quick guide. But just to highlight a few:
Longham Birders group will be conducting walks and showing people the huge range of birds and other wildlife that use these lakes as a sanctuary and nesting site.
Qualified coaches will take you through the rudiments of fishing where you can have a go on the lake. More experienced fisher-folk are welcome too!
Meanwhile on the lake Poole Radio Yacht club will be showing off their amazing radio controlled yachts that are regularly raced on the main lake.
But it will not just be ground and water based activities. Christchurch and district model flying club will also be holding a static display and plan to have a simulator on site as well.
Want to have a go at stand-up paddle boarding in a safe and tranquil setting? The come along to the lakes this Saturday.
But it is not just paddle-boards there will be canoes and kayaks to “have a go” in. All in a controlled environment.
Refreshments will be available. It promises to be a great day.
